LECTURE NOTES - WHAT IS CRITICAL ANALYSIS?


 Stuff we do as a matter of course but may not know we do it.



Analytical - Important. Questioning and interrogating the information you have. Unpick critically.

Difference between objective and subjective - be objective. Neutral, unbias and detached.

*Don't rely on Wikipedia.
 

Apply to a relevant situation or context.

Theorists can be anyone academic writing on a subject.
 

 PEE - Point Evidence Explanation

Weigh up both sides of an argument and produce an informed opinion.

 

 

Critical Analysis encompasses the top three tires of the pyramid.

Top skills are the more difficult skills.

Application of lower skills as you move up the pyramid.
 
 

Difference between the two types of writing.

VERY HELPFUL - READ IN DETAIL.

Critical unpicking.
What is the relevance of this image?
Statement on corporate values.

Context is fundamental to analysis.





Not in the first person.


Concise, relevant information and not extra information that is unneeded.


State and discuss why a person has said something and then analyse and interpret what they have said.



Don't avoid counter-arguments, makes writing strong and discuss whether it is convincing or not.




Synthesise into your practical work.
