How to structure and write a dissertation_

Academic conventions are like an institutional framework for your work
- They structure and standardise

Deep and surface learning

Bloom's Theory on learning and knowledge

Surface Approach
- Small ideas with no linking
- No depth
- Lack of preparation and engagement
- Superficial

Deep Approach
- Own opinions
- Thoughtful and considered
- Relates theory and research to own knowledge
- Structured around logic
- Ongoing process of reflection

Use technical language fluently
Everything you say has to be substantiated by evidence
Concise and direct style of writing - forceful / direct / knowledgeable / to the point

Avoid abbreviations and contractions, slang words and phrases, conversational terms and vague terms

Avoid first person unless completely essential
